(July 29th 1968 - February 14th 2004)

Summary

China’s most prolific serial killer ever, known as “The Monster Killer” Yang confessed to 67 murders and 23 rapes.

Not much is known about Yang’s childhood.

He was born to a poor family from Zhengyang County, Zhumadian, Henan Province, China on July 29th 1968.  He was the youngest of four children and left the village aged 17 to travel and work around China.

Yang began his murder spree supposedly after a girlfriend left him when she discovered his past crimes for theft and rape.

He focussed on murdering small village farmers and their families whilst they slept, using whatever was easily available to him as a weapon, be it an axe, hammer or shovel.

I don’t care whether they deserve to live or not. It is none of my concern... I have no desire to be part of society. Society is not my concern.
— Yang Xinhai after confessing to over 60 murders

After being picked up during a routine police inspection early November 2003, it was discovered he was wanted in connection with murders in four different provinces.  He would quickly confess to the others, most verified by DNA found at the scenes.

Yang Xinhai was found guilty of 67 murders and 23 rapes on February 1st 2004.  He was executed by shooting 13 days later.
