Matthew James Harris

Summary

An Australian Serial Killer born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, his crimes took place in and around his birth city the year of his 30th birthday.

Harris was convicted of armed robbery and three counts of murder on April 7th 2000.  Sentenced to three concurrent 40 year prison terms, he will be eligible for parole in 2023.
A known heroin user, Harris suffers from avoidant, schizoid and schizotypal personality disorder and confesses to committing his crimes because of his anger for the world.

He is suspected of attempting suicide twice, once after his third murder and again the day of his arrest, both by way of heroin overdose.

Crimes

June 20th 1998
Harris and an accomplice broke into Trang Nguyen’s residence and robbed her at knifepoint.  They made off with just $58.

October 1st 1998
Peter Wennerbom was the 62 year old brother of Harris’s friend.  Upon his arrest, Harris struggled to recollect whether he had forced entry to Wennerbom’s house with the intention to kill him or to rob him.  Wennerbom was found three days later strangled to death.

October 17th 1998
After striking up a friendship with the slightly mentally handicapped woman, Harris strangled Yvonne Jean Ford whilst they shared a bath together.  Holding her under the water for 3-4 minutes to ensure her death.

November 3rd 1998
Harris’s last murder victim was his neighbour Ronald Galvin.  He dumped his strangled victim some distance away after borrowing a car.
Galvin was reported missing by his son after a few weeks of not being able to contact him; his body was found nearly a month later.
